Digital Conference - 5G and gender: The future is equitable 4/11/2021
The Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL), of the Integration and Trade Sector of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), together with the Foro del Sur Foundation and Mujeres ConnectAmericas, the IDB platform that promotes export capacity of businesswomen from Latin America and the Caribbean, have organized an event on international insertion, gender and technology. The activity aimed to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that women have in international trade around new technologies. In this sense, this space for dialogue proposed the debate on how to contribute to closing gender gaps.
On this occasion, the recently published study "New exportable services from the 5G network: How to take advantage of them to reduce the gender gap?" was presented.
The document analyzes the physical and digital infrastructure that Argentina, Brazil and Mexico have, as well as the plans around the adoption of the 5G network in the short term, with the aim of investigating the possibility for these countries to position themselves in regional and global value chains in the service sector and that the jobs they create become opportunities for women. In particular, the study focuses on health and entertainment services, as well as Software and Information Services (SIS).
The event constituted a space to expose job opportunities and international insertion for women from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico in certain service sectors as a result of the development of 5G in those countries, as well as to discuss the recommendations that allow their potential.
