Post-Trump democracy 15/12/2020
The Foro del Sur Foundation, Argentine think tank with a Latin American and global vocation, and Alternativas Foundation, leading Spanish think-tank with a progressive and Europeanist orientation, hosted a meeting to address from crossed views (in Spain/Europe and Argentina/Latin America) the impact that the next US presidency may have on our democratic culture and institutions; the future of populist and nationalist phenomena; and in general, the manifestations of the so-called 'culture war' around values (freedoms versus authoritarianism; nationalism versus cosmopolitanism) and politics (economic, social, migratory, environmental). In what state are our democracies after four years of Trump's mandate in the US? Will ‘Trumpism’ as a way of doing politics lose steam? What new political, social and cultural paradigms are going to be developed from now until the post-pandemic?
A joint reflection on the great vectors that define our moment and the period to come.
