UPDATE ON CLIMATE CHANGE 18/7/2018 al 17/10/2018
The Foro del Sur Foundation and the Sustentar Association invited to a seminar dedicated to the climate process in its political, economic and social aspects that took place between July and October 2018.
Climate change is one of the most complex problems that humanity must face. Both for the multiple disciplines involved, as for the various interests and opportunities it presents.
The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, warned that climate change is the greatest threat facing the world and called for more ambition to face it, as a reading of the latest climate negotiations last May. "Climate change is simply an existential threat to the majority of life on the planet, including and especially the life of human beings," he said.
Not only is Argentina suffering the consequences of climate change, the world as a whole is facing everyday more and more palpable and harmful events. This challenge must be assumed by governments, by companies and also by the citizens themselves, in order to reach urgent and realistic solutions.
It is necessary that each of us, from the place they occupy in society, fully understands the problem and contribute to its solution. This course seeks to provide concrete tools to each of the stakeholders to empower them and contribute to the achievement of a sustainable future.
The objective of the course was to empower the public with basic and concrete knowledge regarding all aspects related to the treatment-module. On the second module, issues related to climate change management were analyzed, at national, sub-national and local levels. In this sense, the vision of its management must be addressed in an integral and inter-institutional manner. Subsequently, two more modules were presented to address issues related to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The target audience of the course were those interested in the subject, as well as officials from the government sector - national, provincial or municipal -, members of the private sector - in companies related or directly or indirectly linked to climate change -, non-governmental organizations, and teachers or researchers in the academic sector.
