Created more than twenty-five years ago, the Foro del Sur Foundation was from the beginning intended to be a meeting place for businessmen, academics, thinkers and politicians in which free and democratic debate prevailed, with personalities such as Lech Wałęsa, Lula da Silva, Julio María Sanguinetti, Ernesto Samper, Enrique Iglesias, Michel Albert, Pierre Dabezies, Audrey Azoulay, Estrella de Diego, Celso Lafer, Jean Paul Fitoussi, Salam Kawakibi, Bertrand Badie, Celso Amorin, Alberto Volonte, Leila Hashid, and Christian Boltanski.
Over time, the Foundation’s space has become a reference for meetings where, based on the premise of respect, the attendants can exchange ideas without censorship and with a constructive spirit. In the traditional Breakfast Cycles "Coffee with ideas" and "International Coffee", those present increase their networks of contacts, their social capital, and enhance their ability to intervene in the big issues of today.
Since 1995, the international policy journal Archivos del Presente has clearly transmitted the purposes of the Foundation. Through this publication, held uninterruptedly, it brings the debates of each juncture to the table. All this distinguishes it as the most representative magazine in foreign policy of South America, not only for its continuity but also for its collaborators: the main personalities of Argentina and the world. Furthermore, Archivos del Presente has the exclusive rights for Argentina to the articles of the prestigious international journals Foreign Policy and Foreign Affairs.
Likewise, since 2011, after the cessation of the activities of the Prebisch Foundation, Foro del Sur assumed the commitment to continue its actions and also, since 2017, it has introduced a dynamic area of work aimed at gender issues. Among the initiatives launched are Las Argentinas Trabajamos, Acelerar igualdad, and AgendaxlaIgualdad, accompanied by national surveys, research, debate cycles and trainings.
